Renee’s Angel: A Shell of an Angel Story
Before I left for the Dominican Republic, Renee asked me to bring her back a shell. I was doubtful I could because you really don’t find many shells on the Dominican shoreline. But I said I would look. I then promptly forgot all about it since I didn’t think I would find one. Usually, the only shells you see on the beach by our condo are from the sly Shell Man who sells conch shells to the tourists who don’t know they are not allowed to bring them home.
Fast forward to our first walk on the beach. We were debating if we should go further when I said, “Nope, let’s turn around… now.” We started back to the condo.
The beachfront in the Dominican where we stay is beautiful yet there is a lot of washed-up seagrass. A downside of that is that the little thorny parts of the seagrass prick unsuspecting bare feet. You need to watch where you are going so you often see us tourists looking down as we walk the beach.
As I was dutifully looking down to protect my feet, much to my surprise, I see a little white shell. Not only was it a pretty shell, but it was also still in one piece, a rarity in itself. It had a tiny hole in it, yet for our beach, it was pretty special!
Smiling, I immediately knew that Renee’s angel must have told me to turn around right when I did because if we had gone further, that little shell would have washed right back into the ocean never to be seen again.
I took this picture to text Renee. I told her that her angel had been watching out for her today! She was so happy and so was I because I really didn’t think I would find one.
The Next Day
The next day we were back on the beach walking to our favorite restaurant for Chicken and Mushroom Crepes when, looking down to avoid those prickly buggers, I see another shell!
This time the shell is absolutely perfect. It’s tiny and beautiful. I thought “Okay Angel, now you are just showing off!”
Moral of the story?
Don’t assume just because it’s rare, hard, or not likely, it doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Put aside your doubt and allow your angel, your guide, or even a loved one watching from Heaven to help. Who knows, they may be a bit of a show-off like Renee’s and will work double time to get you the perfect result!
